Marine radar back to work after repairs by Metalock Brasil

Metalock Brasil, in its capacity as authorized repairer of the radar manufacturer Hensoldt (Kelvin Hughes), was called in to perform substitution of a X-Band Radar antenna at a Naval Research Center in Rio de Janeiro. This equipment is integrated within the VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) system.

VTS is an electronic navigation aid, important equipment for the monitoring of water borne traffic, with the purpose of increasing the safety of human life at sea, safe navigation and protection of the environment in areas of intense maritime traffic or areas with risks of major accidents.

Due to size of the antenna, 5.5 metres long, and the awkward installation location, Metalock’s technicians made use of a mobile crane to remove the damaged antenna and install the new antenna, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Metalock’s factory trained technicians then connected the antenna to the radar and commissioned the radar. The radar was then operationally tested, successfully, together with the client’s technical team.
