SPS – SANDWICH PLATE SYSTEM

SPS Technology’s Sandwich Plate System, or SPS ®, is a permanent, Class-approved structural composite comprised of two steel layers and an elastomer core. SPS is used for the permanent repair, strengthening and protection of vessels and assets.

Successfully used for 25 years, SPS offers simplified, more robust structures with little or no welding, less labour and less material. SPS utilises existing, corroded steel plating as the bottom face plate to form the sandwich composite. The resulting composite bond produces a stronger, flatter surface, with equal or greater than as-built strength. The reduction in fatigue and corrosion-prone details increases service life and reduces maintenance costs. SPS can be used for both large and small-scale repairs.

SPS applications can be undertaken while the vessel or asset is in service, eliminating hot work and dry dock visits.

Typical repair and reinstatement applications include:

  • Pontoon Reinstatement on semi-submersibles
  • Deck Reinstatement on all platforms or vessels
  • Tank top reinstatement
  • Side impact protection on FPSOs
  • Helideck, pipe deck & landing area strengthening
  • Sound and vibration deadening
  • Jack-up spud can reinforcement
  • Blast wall upgrades
  • Ice class upgrades
  • Port Infrastructure upgrades.

Typical new build applications include:

  • Control room blast protection
  • Anti-piracy citadel access protection
  • Dropped object protection.

The SPS COLD WORK solution combines onshore fabrication with offshore installation and eliminates hot work on board. This no-hot-work repair keeps assets in service and personnel safe while offering unrivalled sustainability compared to traditional crop and renew repairs.

Proprietary SPS is only delivered by trained SPS Technology partners.
